2012: CHICAGO’S NEW TARGET GROUND BREAKING; REPLACES OLD CABRINI GREEN PROJECT
This week was the ground-breaking for a new Target, located at Chicago’s old Cabrini-Green site. The demolition of one of most dangerous housing projects happened years ago, but growth in the area is still in progress. Residents are excited at the news of the discount chain coming to the neighborhood; offering convenient shopping and possibly increased home values.
The entry of the anchor store also has Alderman Walter Burnett and State Representative Ken Duncan feeling encouraged. They joined in the ground-breaking ceremony at the site just across from Old Town Village West condominium’s, located in the 600 block of west Division. The new Target is expected to open in October 2013.
Area residents can expect an increase in traffic, but also should be happy to know it should help with property values. Historically, when businesses open, it adds to the value and draws more retailer’s to the neighborhood. It is also likely some of the vacant land development will resume, bringing more new construction opportunities for home buyers.
The current housing inventory in the area has nearly dried up, as the last of the short sales and foreclosures sold in recent month’s. If you are interested in available homes for sale or a FREE market analysis visit MY WEBSITE or email britta.rivera@comcast.net.
